Well, Saturday was spent in the Isle of Wight with dad, uncle David, his daughter Gemma and my sister. We went to visit my grandpa in hospital, as he's really ill. He's got leukemia, which affects your immune system. So basically, he's going to die of it.
He's leaving hospital soon, and is going back to my aunt Carol's house where he lives with her and uncle Keith. Typically of him, he's worried about the fuss that everyone's making about him, and is concerned for Carol and Keith, as he can't even go to the toilet by himself right now.
The visiting hours in the hospital are ludicrously short; from 2 to 3, and then from 7 to 8. We all went together (inc. Carol) at 2, and he's so pale. Seriously, like, Edward Cullen pale. And before he had like a permanent tan, as he used to work plotting the land in Zambia, back when it was known as Northern Rhodesia.
The ferry we were meant to catch was at 7:30, but it was delayed to 8:30, so we went back to the hospital for a brief visit. He was so weak, and kept on almost nodding off. It was actually scary. However according to dad and uncle David, this is better than he was before.
Speaking of ferries, both were nightmares. On the way over it was completely packed; we had to stand up the whole time. Everyone's going over for the half term, I guess. The ferry back, although much emptier, was also much worse. There was a group of what appeared to be drunk people sitting somewhere behind us, shouting and cussing at the tops of their voices, and occasionally even breaking into very off-tune song. We at first assumed that they were boys in their late teens/early twenties, but they weren't. They actually looked to be in their late 40s/early 50s. So basically, people of the same age as my uncle and dad. Good to know people can grow old maturely. They were actually scaring my sister, who's nine. She was all huddled up on the seat, and wincing slightly whenever they shouted loud...er than usual.

I'm really sorry about your grandpa :[
ReplyDeleteThere's nothing really that one can say in this situation, because "I hope things get better" doesn't seem to really work... :/
So I'm going to offer you my thoughts and another hug next time I see you.
Also I shall give back the Disney song book asap, sorry I forgot about it on Friday, but being ill isn't helpful on the old memory. :P
